Since the chocolate vine growth rate is so fast, it makes an excellent cover for arbours, trellises, pergolas or fences. Growing chocolate vine produces edible seedpods that taste similar to tapioca pudding. If you wish to have fruit, you must plant more than one five leaf akebia vine

Seed Germination

Soak seeds in tap water for 24 hours

Prepare a well draining compost mix - ideally 50% compost and 50% vermiculite

Ensure compost mix is damp but not wet

Place compost mix in seed tray or pots

Sow seeds individually, gently pressing them into the compost surface to ensure good contact

Do not cover seeds as light required for germination

Keep in a warm, light place at circa 17-22c but out of direct sunlight

Ensure compost mix does not dry out - mist with water as required.

Seedlings should appear in 3-6 weeks depending on conditions

Pot on as requiredDo not move/plant outside until after last frost risk passed.

Can be brought inside and overwintered
