This blackberry is genuinely thornless  - big advantage to picking, however just like its spiny cousin it is very vigorous.

Obviously much easy to train up or along whatever you want - blackberries fruit on the previous years growth. Fruits are large (not fully ripe when pic taken) and with a very good taste.

Sowing Guide

As a native British plant that can survives very cold winters, blackberry seeds require a period of cold stratification for optimal germination - this is natures way of stopping seeds germinating at the wrong time of year, eg the autumn and being killed by frost/snow before can get established. Thanks to fridges we can "trick" such seeds into thinking that winter has passed and now its time to wake up

  • Place the seeds in a small ziplock bag along with some slightly damp potting compost and place in the fridge for around 8 weeks
  • Prepare seed tray or pots of well draining compost (ideally 50/50 compost / vermiculite mix)
  • Sow seeds across surface and gently press to ensure good contact with soil.
  • Add a thin layer circa 2mm of sieved compost to cover seeds
  • Ensure compost kept moist at all times - spray with water bottle every other day
  • Keep in warm light place but out of direct sunlight
  • Germination should take 15-30 days
  • Pot on once several sets of leaves
