If the old basil you have grown or eatem is Italian sweet basil, you will appreciate Thai Basil's the crisp pungency that plays particularly well with Southeast Asian food. It adds a fresh, herbal-Liquorice flavour not quite like anything else. Aside from the taste, it also hold together much better in cooking than its Italian cousin.

Thai basil is very versatile - can be easily grown as microgreens on a kitchen windowsill all year round or grown in pots to get larger leaves. It brings a anise intensity to East and Southeast Asian dishes from Thai coconut milk curries to Taiwanese three cup chicken. If you have tried these dishes at home before but felt they lacked a certain fresh pungency, then fresh Thai basil was probably the missing ingredient.

Germination Guide

[Microgreens only] sow in old fruit punnet as dense as you like  - see picture
Sow on the surface of pots or trays of sieved general purpose comost.
Tamp gently to get good contact with compost
Do not cover the seeds with compost - light needed for germination
Mist the surface with water
Keep at around 20c (will germinate faster in winter on a heat mat if your heating goes off at night)
Cover the tray with a plastic bag, clingfilm or similar with a few air holes
Place in a bright spot out of direct sunlight.
Regulalry mist surface 
Germination takes from 5-10 days depending on conditions
Thin seedlings and pot on as required unless you are growing as microgreens
