Please find for sale 20+ rather rare seeds for Dodonaea Viscosa Purpurea commonly known as the Purple Hopbush. 

The beautiful shrub will do well planted outside in Southern England or in urban/sheltered/coastal spots. In more northern/cold areas, it can be grown as a container plant and brought into greenhouse/conservatory or given protection winter. It is a highly ornamental variety with gorgeous purple foliage and red-green flowers that will do well in sunny, sheltered spot, such as against a south- or west-facing wall.

Germination Guide

Note: Reasonable germination rates (circa 40%) can be achieved by simply sowing the seeds direct into trays to a good compost mix (eg 50/50 compost and vermiculite) and keeping in a warm bright place. Studies show that higher germination rates can be achieved by pre-treating the seeds - simply place seeds into a bowl, pour on some boiling water then allow to cool naturally.
  • Sow individually in trays of a good compost mix (50/50 mix of compost and vermiculite is ideal)
  • Compost should be moist but not wet
  • Cover with a fine layer (2mm or so) of sieved compost
  • Keep in a warm bright place out of direct sunlight, eg window sill over a radiator on North facing wall
  • Ensure compost does not dry out. Best to place tray in another water tight tray and water from the bottom
  • Seeds should germinate in 2 to 5 weeks
  • Pot on once established and second leaf forms on each seedling
