Please find for sale 2,000+ (0.8g) of a mix of different Papaver (Poppy) cultivars such as the stunning "Victoria Cross" and the bright, white "Royal Wedding" . We do sell some of these individually but thought it would be nice to have a mix of lots of different shapes and sizes and colours - singles, doubles and dwarf. As sure you will know, poppys do not require good soil and as such are fantastic options for rough, stoney ground where nothing else grows - which is why they often pop us in cracks in paving stones etc.
Once they find a site they like where they are not outcompeted, they will self seed readily and come back year after year. Papaver seeds famously can lie dormant in soil for many years - so naturally some years you will get an unexpected profusion if the conditions suit them.

Papavers are technically perennials and will set seed, but can also be grow as annuals in the UK. They are very are easy to grow from seed and are useful for growing in hot, dry spots where the soil is poor – they do well in coastal, exposed and gravel gardens. Their flowers lack nectar but are rich in pollen and attract a wide range of bees.
Growing Guide
Easy to grow from seed and is best sown direct where they are to flower, as they are not keen on having their roots disturbed. Sow in autumn for earlier flowers the following year, or sow successionally from mid-April to June for a long flowering period. Once sown, you will probably find that poppies self seed - seeds can remain viable for many years so can re-appear many years later!
- Make a drill by pressing a stick into moist soil. Rows need to be about 15cm apart, in a sunny site.
- Take pinches of seed and scatter thinly along the drill or you will waste seed and spend more time thinning out.
- Use a trowel or your fingers to cover seeds very lightly with soil. Label the rows and water using a watering can with a rose attachment.
- Thin seedlings out once they’re about 4cm tall and again at 8cm, so that they’re spaced about 15cm apart.
