Acca Sellowiana is a species of fruiting flowering plant native to South America. It is widely cultivated as an ornamental tree and for its fruit. Common names include feijoa, pineapple guava and guavasteen. It is an evergreen, perennial shrub or small tree.

5 reasons why you should grow these:

1. Interesting and Attractive Foliage.
Pineapple guava is a handsome shrub with thick, oval, silvery-green evergreen foliage that provides year-round interest.

2. Beautiful and Interesting Flowers.
The flowers are similar to those of passion fruit. Sugary pink petals are pulled back and down over the stem allowing rose red stamens with gold tips to fan out. Very popular with bees, butterflies, and birds.

3. Edible Fruit and Flowers
The flower can be eaten right off the plant and used to jazz up salads - they have a fruity-sweet-with-a-little-tang flavor. The fruit is ripe when they drop off of the shrub and are eaten the same way a a kiwi fruit - cut in half and the flesh scooped out with a spoon. The taste id a mix of pineapple and a true guava.

4. Carefree.
Pretty easy to grow and seem to have few pests - in fact even my chickens don't touch them! - see last picture. They love my enclosed south facing garden on the South Coast but should grow well in most of the UK - the two things they don't like are hard frosts and strong cold winds. For most of the UK my advice would be to bring into greenhouse or conservatory for winter if they are in containers.

5. Container friendly.
Thrive in containers in enclosed gardens as long as a decent amount of sun - so perfect for small urban gardens for example.
