Please find for sale 10+ organic Grape [Vitis Vinifera] seeds, the variety being "Lidia".  This variety is particularly suitable to growing in the UK, being hardy down to -40C. Lidia grapes are very popular in Eastern Europe and it produces large clusters of medium sized lilac/blue grapes. They are excellent eaten fresh and the wine is semi sweet with pleasant strawberry aroma.

These seeds, from last summers crop, come from the Ukraine - from one of my favorite suppliers and whose organic seeds are always of the highrest quality. I have tried to support them over the last two years - their proximity to the warzone has made things extremely difficult for them.

PLEASE NOTE: All orders received before 8pm (Mon-Fri) will be dispatched same day

Sowing Guide

Grape seeds benefit from a period of cold stratification for optimal germination - this is natures way of stopping seeds germinating at the wrong time of year, eg the autumn and being killed by frost/snow before can get established. Thanks to fridges we can "trick" such seeds into thinking that winter has passed and now its time to wake up!

  • Place the seeds in a small ziplock bag along with some slightly damp potting compost and place in the fridge for 8 weeks or so.
  • After cold stratification, prepare pots or seed trays of a well-draining compost mix - ideally 50/50 compost and vermiculite mix
  • Sow evenly spaced on surface. Press gently to surface
  • Cover with around 1cm of sieved compost
  • Keep at 18-20C
  • Cover seed tray with plastic dome (vents open) or a clear bag with air holes cut.
  • Ensure compost kept moist but not wet - best to water from the bottom.
  • Seedling should appear in around 4-8 weeks
  • Pot on once parge enough to handle
