Morado Sweetcorn | 25+ seeds | Purple | Chicha

Please find for sale 25+ organic Peruvian Morado corn seeds. Cultivated at altitude in Peru since the pre-Hispanic era, this heirloom corn variety is well suited to growing in the UK, especially in places where modern sweet corn cultivars are more tricky. Corn is well-known to be high in antioxidants - and purple corn is higher still due to the presence of Anthocyanin (which gives the purple colour)

The kernals are a very deep purple, almost black and the taste is superior and more sophisticated than modern commercially produced sweetcorn. In Peru, it is used to make their national drink, Chicha which is a fermented corn beer - quite straightforward to home brew.

Germination Guide

• Store in a cool place until ready to sow
• Sow indoors from April to Mid May
• Soak seeds in warm water for 6 hours or so
• Sow in individual pots or toilet roll tubes
• Keep at 18-23C  - use a heat mat or sunny window sill
• Do not plant out until all risk of frost has passed and soil has warmth
• Grow as normal corn - plant in squares  - lots of videos out there on this.
