Why Grow Lithops?
Unusual Appearance: They look exactly like small pebbles or stones, providing a surreal, almost alien aesthetic to collections.
Camouflage & Adaptation: Their design mimics rocks to avoid grazing animals in their native South Africa, making them great for teaching plant adaptation.
Low Water Needs: Extremely drought-tolerant, they store water in their fleshy leaves, requiring very infrequent watering.
Low Maintenance: Their minimal water needs make them perfect for busy individuals or those who forget to water plants.
Surprising Flowers: They produce beautiful, often yellow or white, daisy-like flowers that emerge from the fissure, adding a burst of colour.
Long Lifespan: These plants can live for decades (40-50 years) in the same pot.
Collection Value: With many species and variations in colour and pattern, they're popular with succulent enthusiasts.

Germination Guide
Prepare a seed tray or individual pots with a moist, sandy, free-draining compost.
Gently firm down and level the surface. Scatter the Lithops seeds over the surface. Tamp the seeds into the compost mix but do not cover
Cover the tray with a plastic cover or bag with air holes open to allow some air circulationKeep at 20c - heat mat is ideal. Keep out of direct sunlight
Mist the compost with water as required to ensure it does not dry out.
Seedlings will develop within a few weeks. Remove the plastic bag and water when the compost becomes dry, but spray the surface with water regularly, to keep it moist.
Provide seedlings with some air during their first year
Prick out and pot on after first year
