Please find for sale 5+ seeds of Hedychium gardnerianum, commonly known as Kahili Ginger.

Kahili is a stunning perennial plant native to the Himalayas and as such is hardy to most parts of the UK. Fast growing, it can grow to 6ft+ so makes a great feature plant for the border. Flowering in late summer and early Autumn with a lovely delightful fragrance. At the end of the season, the tubers can be lifted and stored or the base of plant covered over winter.

Germination Guide
  • Soak seeds for 12 hours in a cup of warm water
  • Prepare a tray of moist compost - ideally 50% seed compost and 50% vermiculite or perlite
  • Sow seeds individually on the surface - do not cover as light required
  • Press seeds into compost to ensure good contact
  • Cover tray with clear plastic dome or plastic bag with air holes 
  • Place tray in a warm place using a heated propagator  as required (23-27c) but out of direct sunlight
  • Ensure soil stays moist but not wet 
  • Germination can taken between 3 -6 weeks depending on the conditions
  • Pot on once large enough to handle.
