Holy basil is an aromatic perennial herb native to the Indian subcontinent and widespread as a cultivated plant throughout Southeast Asia. It is cultivated for religious and traditional medicine purposes, and also for its essential oil. It is widely used as a herbal tea, commonly used in Ayurveda, and has a place within the Vaishnava tradition of Hinduism, in which devotees perform worship involving holy basil plants or leaves.
Germination Guide
1) Sprinkle seeds onto a well draining compost in seed tray
2) Compost should ideally a mix of 50% regular compost, 50% vermiculite (which I sell in the Accessories section of my eBay shop)
3) Gently "tamp" (press) on the seeds to ensure good contact with the soil surface
4) Keep soil moist but not wet - mist the surface to ensure does not dry out.
5) Keep at circa 17-25 degrees in a light place - so ideal place is on window but out of direct sunlight
5) Thin seedlings and pot on as required.
6) Plant out in soil or in pots once risk of last frost has passed
Holy Basil, like many other herbs can of course be grown indoors for an all year round supply.
