Why grow Greater Mullein?
Wildlife & Pollinators Mullein is a two-for-one for biodiversity. The towering yellow flower spires are highly attractive to bees and beneficial insects. Meanwhile, the large basal leaves serve as an essential host and food source for caterpillars—particularly the Mullein Moth.
Drought Tolerance & Low Maintenance: This hardy biennial thrives on neglect. It prefers poor, free-draining, and chalky or sandy soils in full sun, meaning it requires very little watering or feeding.
Architectural Appeal: In its second year, it produces a dramatic, towering flower stalk that can reach up to 2 meters tall, and a first-year rosette of large, soft, velvety, grey-green leaves.
Herbal Traditions: Historically, the plant has been extensively used for lung health. Its leaves are often dried and steeped as a tea to soothe respiratory ailments, while the yellow flowers are sometimes infused in oil for topical or ear treatments

Germination Guide
There are three primary ways to germinate these seeds:
1 Outdoors: Direct sow in early spring after the last frost has passed or in the autumn.
2 Indoors: Start seeds 4 to 6 weeks before your final spring frost.
3 Winter Sowing: You can use translucent containers (like milk jugs) left outside during the winter; the natural cold will stratify the seeds, and they will sprout naturally as temperatures warm in the spring
Light: Light: Because the seeds require light to break dormancy, you must scatter them on the surface of the soil and lightly press or tamp them down rather than burying them
Moisture: Keep the soil consistently moist but never waterlogged while waiting for the seeds to sprout. Using a gentle mist or spray bottle is best to avoid washing the microscopic seeds away
Note: For optimum germination rates Mullein seeds will benefit from a few weeks of cold, damp stratification. However with so many seeds per pack this is probably not necessary
