Galangal loves humidity as a tropical plant so whilst it is relatively easy to grow in the UK, your crop will improve significantly if in a polytunnel or it not a raised bed in sheltered spot with moist well fertilised soil and dappled sun only

Sowing Guide

• Soak seeds for 24 hours in a cup of warm water
• Prepare a tray of compost - ideally 50% seed compost and 50% vermiculite or perlite
• Sow seeds individually about 1/4 inch (6cm deep) and cover with compost
• Cover tray with clear plastic dome with air holes open. Alternatively cover with cling film but with some air holes cut in it
• Place tray in a warm place (20-25c) but out of direct sunlight
• Ensure soil stays moist but not wet 
• Germination can taken between 4 -8 weeks depending on the conditions
• Pot on once large enough to handle.
