Golden Shower Tree | 20+ seeds | Amaltas | Indian Laburnum

Please find for sale 20+ fresh Cassia Fistula seeds more commonly known as the Golden Shower Tree, Amaltas or Indian Laburnum. When in flower, this plant resembles Laburnum but is in fact unrelated.

Cassia fistula is widely grown as an ornamental plant especially in Indian and Asia. It blooms profusely with trees completely covered with yellow flowers. 

It is only mildly frost hard but is drought tolerant  - so in the UK it is best grown in large pots of free-draining compost that can be given protection. As the tree grows and ages it become more cold-tolerant.

Seed Germination

Cassia Fistula seeds have a very hard, water-impermeable seed coat and require some pre-treatment for high germination rates to occur

• Place the seeds in a bowl/mug and pour hot (not boiling) water 70-80c over them and leave for 12-24 hours. 
• Seeds that have been successfully pre-treated will have swollen to several times their original size. 
• Remove all swollen seeds as these will be damaged by further pre-treatments. These can be sown immediately. 
• This hot water treatment can be repeated up to 3 times, making the water a little hotter each time. 
• Sow in pots or seed trays of good quality compost at a depth of about 2cm
• The seed usually germinates in under 4 weeks at 18-22°c.
• It is important that temperatures or not greatly higher than this or germination will be reduced.
