Please find for sale 15+ Fenestraria Aurantiaca seeds, better known for obvious reasons as the "Baby Toes" succulent. This fascinating and low-maintenence house plant is also called the Window Sill Succulent - again for pretty obvious reasons.

Native to southern africa, they adapted to survive both drought and browsing herbivores. Their almost translucent appearance allows light to penetrate deep within the plant alowing it to photosynthesise within and below - and by growing so low they avoid being munched. As a succulent retaining water inside, they survive the long hot summers and burst into lift when the rains finally come.

Once established they are easy to care for - just given them a very free draining cactus compost mix and just given them the occasional soaking in summer.

Please Note: Fenestraria seeds are very small so I will mix them with a small amount of sharp sand to facilitate customers getting them out of the packet and sprinkling onto the compost mix.

Seed Germination

Theese are rare and expensive seeds so please dont rush into sowing. Store in a cool place or in a sealed container in the fridge until you are ready. There are useful videos out there on techniques to germinate these
  • Use a free draining cactus/succulent compost mix
  • Water the compost mix and allow to drain
  • Microwave the mix for a few minutes to sterilise it then allow to cool
  • Wash and sterilse your seed tray/pot
  • Fill the pots up to several centimetres or so from the top with the compost mix
  • Sprinkle seeds over surface of the mix and mist with water
  • Cover with clingfilm or a plastic dome with air holes. 
  • Keep at room termperature - 17 to 19cC is ideal, more than 20C can cause rot issues
  • Keep in bright spot but out of direct sunlight
  • Germination takes 3-4 weeks at ideal conditions.
  • After germination, slowly remove cover over a few weeks
  • Pot on once large enough to handle
