Why Grow European Wild Pear?

Spring blossoms: Bears abundant white single flowers in late April that brighten the landscape.
Attractive structure: Develops a narrow, ovoid crown and an aged, dark grey-to-black deeply grooved trunk.
Drought tolerance: Shows good resistance to dry spells and adapts well to neutral or calcareous soils.

Seed Germination Guide

As Wild trees are native to cold climates, its seeds require a period of cold stratification for optimum germination.

Soak the seeds in warm water for a day and then drain away the water.
Prepare a moist but not wet free draining substrate into which the seeds are to be mixed, this can be a 50/50 mixture of compost and sharp sand, or perlite, vermiculite.
Mix the seeds into the substrate,
Place the seed mixture into a clear plastic bag 
Place the bag in the fridge for 8-10 weeks.
Check from time to time as some seeds can germinate during this process - if this happens remove those seeds and pot up
After the cold stratification period, plant the seeds about 5mm deep in a pot containing good quality compost. Keep them in a warm place at around room temperature and germination should begin within 1 or 2 weeks.
