The Dragon Tree is an evergreen succulent tree native to subtropical zones on and near the northwest coast of Africa. In colder climes, it is a popular and attractive houseplant.

The dragon tree forms a canopy of long, pointed leaves on stems that emerge from a thick trunk. It is tough and relatively easy to care for. Enjoys bright light but not scorching direct sun depending where you live.

Key Reasons to Grow a Dragon Tree:

Low Maintenance & Adaptable: It thrives in average home temperatures 18-27C, tolerates low light, and is drought-tolerant due to water-storing capabilities.

Air-Purifying Qualities: research shows it is effective at removing harmful toxins from indoor air.

Striking Aesthetics: Features tall, thin, woody stems with arching, sword-like leaves that add a dramatic, tropical, or modern look to any room.

Longevity & Easy Care: It is a slow-growing, long-lived plant that requires little pruning or frequent repotting.

Versatility: Suitable for beginners and, while it prefers bright, indirect light, it can adapt to lower light conditions.

Germination Guide

1) Scarify the seeds -  use a metal nail file or similar to gently file the outer seed case (enough to allow moisture to penetrate)

2) Allow the seeds to soak in room temperature water for 24 hours

3) Sow seeds approx 2cm deep in a tray of compost mixed with perlite or vermiculite

4) Ensure compost is moist but not wet

5) Place in a warm light position and keep at around 22-26c

6) Can cover with plastic to increase humidity but be careful as this can encourage rot.

7) I prefer to leave the tray open and water from the bottom i.e. the seeds tray is inside another tray to ensure compost always moist.

8) First seedlings should appear from about 3 weeks depending on the conditions

9) Seedlings can be potted on once large enough to handle
