50+ Miscanthus Sinensis seeds, better known as Chinese Silver Grass. It is also known as Maiden Grass, Eulalia, Japanese Silver Grass or simply Miscanthus. Easy to grow, this ornamental grass is wonderful in winter, add elegance and movement to the landscape, are generally pest and disease free. Also one of the few ornamental grasses to cope with heavier soils

Sowing Guide

  • Sow at any time of year
  • Sow seeds thinly on surface of trays or large pots containing a good quality seed compost mix - ideally a mix of  50% regular compost, 50% vermiculite
  • Do not cover the seed with compost - light needed for germination. 
  • Place on heat mat or window sill at approx 15-20c
  • Cover with clear bag to maintain humidity
  • Germination can be erratic - 10-60 days.
  • Ventilate gradually as seedlings emerge
  • Do not over-water - best to water from the bottom
  • After the seedlings appear, place them where they can get plenty of sun and maintain a temperature of around 15°C until the seedlings are established.
  • If sown in Autumn or Winter, keep in posts indoors or in greenhouse etc until spring.
  • Pot on once large enough to handle
  • Plant out in final position once risk of frost has passed.
