Please find for sale 50+ fresh Celosia Flamingo Feather (Celosia Spicata) seeds. This easy-to-grow cultivar produces masses of showy plums of Soft pink to white flowers. Looks great in the border or can be used for stunning cut flowers. Although grown as an  annual Celosia will readily set-seed so should come back year on year.

Celosia is actually related to Amaranth - see the similarity with the red amaranth that I also sell. As such the young leaves are edible, tasty and nutritious albeit the taste becomes bitter as the plant matures.

INSTRUCTIONS - I am reducing paper waste by no longer sending paper instructions to customers. All the information required is detailed below so bookmark this page.

Celosia likes plenty of sun, however, the most important consideration in growing them is the soil conditions - they cannot tolerate wet feet and as such clay soils are unsuitable. They need soil that is well draining - so in the summer they will need watering regularly albeit this can be reduced by mulching.

Sowing Guide for Optimum Germination
  • Sow seed in late winter to spring
  • Celosia seedlings dislike root disturbance so the seed is best sown in modular trays or individual pots that can be transplanted with the root ball intact, or in biodegradable pots that can be planted intact
  • Sow in moist seed compost mix - ideally 50/50 mix of sieved compost and vermiculite (which I have in the Accessories section of my shop)
  • Cover seeds with a thin layer of the same mixture or just vermiculite.
  • Keep at a temperature of circa 20-25°C, ideally in a propagator or on a heat mat
  • Seedlings should appear in 6-15 days
  • Thin as required but do not pot on to minimise root disturbance
  • Plant out once all risk of frost has passed and the soil in warming up
