Please find for sale 30+ Cynara Cardunculus seeds, better known as Cardoon, Artichoke Thistle or Purple Thistle. In Italy and other parts of Europle this edible plant is considered a culinary delicacy (similar taste to an artichoke without the hassle) but here in the UK it is primary grown as a spectacular additon to herbaceous borders.

Germination Guide 

  • Sow indoors Feb to April, outdoors March to May or late sumer/autumn for the following season
  • Sow indoors in pots or trays in a greenhouse at 18°C. 
  • Outside in free draining soil in mid spring when the soil has warmed up. 
  • Require a sizeable spot in full sun and well drained soil
  • Sow 2/3 seeds 30cm then thin out to 1 metre apart.
  • Indoor raised seedlings should be pricked out and grown on once large enough to handle
  • Add plenty of manure or other rotted organic matter to the planting out site
